'Cyril Fhal did his early work in the Loire Valley before sourcing several vineyards in Roussillon. He is farmer first, winemaker second and is renowned for his meticulous approach to biodynamic tending of his land. The wines are rare even in France, and Fhal has stepped outside the Roussillon AOC (which requires red wines produced from a compulsory 30% mourvèdre or syrah) and focuses on grenache and carignan. It’s a cut above in understated class here. This wine is produced from a single site from 30-year-old-or-so grenache vines. It’s naturally fermented, foot pressed and spends time in only used oak before settling in stainless steel and bottled relatively young. Such a fine, silky, satiny feel to this wine. Depth of flavour, but a relaxed, at ease, lacy breadth to the wine that cinches with chalky tannins through the close. It’s wildly perfumed in dark berry fruit, sweet pipe tobacco characters, dried herbs and spice. The first draw on the wine and there’s ripe fruit, but it tilts into savoury quickly. Inky stain of blackberries and dusty spice lingers. Beautiful drinking. 93 points.' Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
