Lakes Folly Cabernets 2014

‘It smells very strongly of a cedar chest, stuffed with camphor, and I guess that’s a good reminder that you should put it away for at least a decade. Aside that, there’s red and black fruits – small berried and intense – some violet perfume and a good whiff of pencils and Hunter earth. Medium bodied, crisp and firm, driven by acidity but also has some subtle chocolaty flavours to soften and gentle fine grained tannin. Precise, is how it feels, and picked for its crunch rather than punch. Finish is blackberry and redcurrant, pretty, and long with a drag of tannin. Such a distinctive wine. I’m not sure there’s anything quite like Lake’s Folly red anywhere else in the world. Very much its own thing. I expect this will turn out to be one of the great ones. 95+ points.’ Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
