Taste Australia Mixed Dozen

2 x S.C. Pannell Syrah 2015, McLaren Vale SA

‘This bright crimson wine sheds its initial shaft of reduction with a twirl of the wrist, delivering tapenade, blue and black fruit flavours and a skein of peppery tannin melded to a rasp of briar, indicating the 20% of stems in the ferment. The oak is absorbed by the fruit; the finish taut, persistent and highly refreshing. 95 points.’ James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
2 x Ravensworth Shiraz Viognier 2019, ACT

‘A stellar wine on a stellar run.Superb. From first whiff to last sip. Beautiful perfume, floral characters over red berries, exotic, brown spices, a touch of musk, some dried leaves. Oh man. Darker spectrum fruit flavours, black cherry, good concentration here but without weight, loaded with spice, tannins fine, gentle but an authority. Delicious, complex red. A feast for the sense. Excellent all up. 95 points.’ Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
2 x Small Island Glengarry Pinot Noir 2019, TAS

From a single site in the Tamar Valley and made with 20 year old vines. Unfiltered and minimal sulphur. This is a vividly aromatic style, with dried leaves and twigs and cupboard spices. It’s autumnal, really. Some smokey sandalwood on the palate, with cherry, pot pourri and brambles. AWC

2 x Oates Ends Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Margaret River WA

‘The colour isn’t deep, but the hue is excellent; there’s a lot to please in the wine, notably its freshness and varietal expression; the tannins are fine and persistent, as they should be. A stylish medium-bodied cabernet that takes you by grace, not storm. 95 points.’ James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
2 x Harkham Azisa’s Semillon 2019, Hunter Valley NSW

Made by Richie Harkham in the Hunter Valley. Made 100% naturally and, most unusually for Hunter Semillon, aged in old oak. The result is an aromatic wine, with waxy lemon and cashews on the nose, with grapefruit, lemongrass and a whiff of ginger. The acid is still taut, keeping things tight and fresh, despite the rich toastiness. This is a fun and interesting interpretation of the variety.’ AWC
2 x Fighting Gully Road Chardonnay 2019, Beechworth VIC

Not only from one of the most best regions for Chardonnay in Australia, but also from one of the best producers in that region. This is a clean and refined example of  Chardonnay, with tight citrus fruit and lean acid, with notes of crushed nuts, white stonefruit and grapefruit zest. Top quality gear which doesn’t take itself too seriously. AWC
